- In case anyone asks about Host Master II Plus, and why KaGOLD is better:
-
- 1. Host Master disconnects all stations when it starts up.
- KaGOLD retains connects, does not reset your tnc on startup.
-
- 2. Host Master will not exit in any mode other than PACKET, which means
- you cannot exit and leave your ARQBBS on, or leave the unit in NAVTEX.
- KaGOLD allows you to exit in any mode you wish.
-
- 3. Host Master has small scrollback buffers. Default is 100 lines, and the
- access to the scrollback is cumbersome.
- KaGOLD has huge scrollback buffers, all dynamically allocated, and
- managed automatically.
-
- 4. Host Master has a very limited Help "system" (screen) with no help
- on modes, or parameters.
- KaGOLD has a complete cross-referenced help system that covers all
- parameters and operating modes.
-
- 5. Host Master uses a "command channel" to set and view parameters.
- KaGOLD allows you to set/change any parameter from any screen.
-
- 6. Host Master has a single binary file transfer system, and only
- compatible with other Host Master users. Further, it uses a "pacing"
- timer approach which is inherently unreliable.
- KaGOLD supports YAPP, RAW binary, and supports the same system as in
- PkGOLD for the AEA PK-232 and PK-88 tncs, and other GOLD protocol
- software (dspGOLD, KaGOLD for Data Engine, etc).
-
- 7. Host Master has no Conference mode, and multiconnects are difficult.
- KaGOLD allows manual and/or automatic conferences, allows multi-node
- conferences (mixing KaGOLD and PkGOLD conference nodes), multi-connects
- are easy to setup and manage.
-
- 8. Host Master does not work reliably in Windows.
- KaGOLD runs under Windows, Desqview, OS/2, DOS 2 through 6, and
- in VPIX under Unix for the PC. It is "multitasking" aware.
-
- 9. Host Master has a nice "front end" but the more one learns about
- it, the more one determines its limitations and weaknesses.
- Also, it as few features, and is difficult and cumbersome to use.
- KaGOLD has a clean user interface, and the power of the program
- grows as the user becomes more proficient. The program has far more
- power than is obvious at first.
-
- 10. Host Master is subcontracted software, not written at Kantronics.
- KaGOLD is written at InterFlex, by users and professional software
- developers. As a user, you have input into the program features,
- and access to the InterFlex BBS.
